Birthing Beautiful Communities Begins Construction on New Birth Center

Cleveland, OH – Birthing Beautiful Communities (BBC) has officially begun construction on its Birth Center & Headquarters. Land preparation on the site, located off East 65th and Chester, began in August with the removal of trees and utility work.

The Birth Center will include four birthing suites, two exam rooms, medical team stations, office space for BBC staff, and a community room for training and workshops. The facility aims to address and reduce the continued disparities in maternal and infant health throughout Northeast Ohio, providing a sanctuary where every mother and baby can access the care and support they need.

This construction project is led by AKA Team and Whiting-Turner, BBC’s general contractors. Additional project partners include BakerHostetler, Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP, City Architecture, Desired Designs, Fluker Consulting, LLC, Novogradac & Company, PNC Bank, Northeast Ohio Development Fund, and Sikora Law. Major philanthropic partners supporting the project include The City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, George Gund Foundation, The Cleveland Foundation, and a host of foundation, corporate, and community donors whose generosity makes this vision possible.

Cleveland’s expectant mothers and babies are in need of innovative solutions, and Birthing Beautiful Communities is delivering just that. Construction of the new birth center in Hough will expand the nonprofit’s life-saving work and benefit more families throughout our region, says Lillian A. Kuri, President & CEO of The Cleveland Foundation

Construction is expected to be completed in Spring 2027, with the Birth Center opening shortly thereafter.

While construction is now underway, BBC is still actively raising funds to complete its $15M comprehensive capital campaign, which includes the Birth Center and a new headquarters to expand wraparound services for mothers and families. Community members, corporations, and foundations are invited to join this historic effort and help close the funding gap of $6M. Every dollar counts and there are many ways to support the city’s only free-standing Birth Center.

About Birthing Beautiful Communities

Birthing Beautiful Communities addresses the social determinants of health and real-life circumstances that at-risk mothers face, making them vulnerable to infant mortality. Infant mortality is highest amongst communities of color. The core of the program is social cohesion. BBC functions and serves the purpose of real-time learning opportunities that will increase the understanding of how and why the social determinants of health affect unborn children and what resources are available or need to be created to increase the likelihood of infant survival up to one year and beyond.

BBC has evolved into a multi-layered, holistic set of services that, in addition to pregnancy and postpartum support, gives local women from local neighborhoods opportunities to increase their personal and family wealth through employment with livable wages and address other needs that inhibit their quality of life and that of their children and families. Birthing Beautiful Communities mobilizes community residents and organizational partners to address the social, structural, and economic determinants of health and promote health equity.
