Birthing Beautiful Communities (BBC) is a 501©3 of Perinatal Support Specialist or doulas who primarily provide social support to pregnant women at highest risk for infant mortality during the perinatal period. These birth workers are highly trained and skilled in various areas, including labor support, stress management, emotional support, breastfeeding and contraception education, smoking cessation as well as case management, peer to peer interaction and collectivism. The model is based on CEASE, which is rooted in culture, education, advocacy, support and engagement. The model takes a two-prong approach which allows economic development by employing local women at high wages, while providing support to women in need, increasing the human and social capital within a single community.



The Program Coordinator for Birthing Beautiful Communities is responsible for assisting the Program Manager in supervising programs that fall within this strategic area, including ensuring high-quality, evidence-based practices for youth development, case management, and maternal and child health programming.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and staff development – Assist the Program Manager with recruiting, hiring, screening, training and supervising staff and contractors.  Identify training needs and opportunities;
  • Program Knowledge – Ability to educate clients on childbirth information such as prenatal care, birth plans, stages of labor, breastfeeding, infant capacities, etc.
  • Administrative Oversight – Oversee staff scheduling, assignments, day-to-day operations.
  • Service delivery/ caseload – Assist with outreach and client recruitment.
  • Grants and Contract Management – Assist the Program Manager with managing all contracts and grants, including program and fiscal reporting and management.  Compile information for monthly reporting and tracking to funders and partners.
  • Quality Control and Compliance – Support contract, grant, agency, and service delivery compliance and risk reduction by ensuring timely and accurate documentation and data collection. Monitor and review documentation.
  • Resource Development – Participate in conceptualizing program development, drafting and preparing proposals, concept papers and resource development strategies.
  • Program Development – Identify resources and develop strategies and partnerships to strengthen and enhance the program and services to program participants.
  • Strategic Planning – Coordinate services and service delivery strategy in accordance with grant and funder requirements and agency resources, policies and protocols.
  • Outcomes-based programming – develop expertise on program – best practice, evidence-based practices, research, data-tracking and reporting, innovation, client input, and evaluation.


  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent education and experience in public health, social work, nursing, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy
  • Completion of Birthing Beautiful Communities’ –Doula training within one year of hire
  • Two years, direct service (individual, group and family) experience in teen pregnancy, teen parenting, and/or adolescent development
  • Excellent English language verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications.
  • Evaluation and/or research experience a plus
  • Bilingual- Spanish/English
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
  • On-call availability 24/7 (except for approved time off)


The salary range for this position is 45,000 – 50,000. The position will receive generous company benefits to include paid health, dental, for the employee, as well as company paid retirement contributions.
