Our Target Areas are the neighborhoods with the highest rates of infant deaths. In the city of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, they include:
Greater University Circle (Hough, Fairfax, Buckeye-Shaker, East Cleveland, Glenville), as well as, Kinsman, Lee-Harvard, Maple Hts, Garfield Hts., Warrensville Hts., and Ohio City. |
The Real Ugly TruthAfrican American women are affected by infant death 3 times more than the national average. Women of color are affected 2 times more than the national average. In Cleveland, Ohio, the most affected neighborhoods are Central, Buckeye-Woodhill, Ohio City, Lee-Harvard, and Hough. On average, 30 babies die out of 1,000 born in the Central neighborhood.
That's Too Many! There's a number of reasons why this is happening. Our group strives to eliminate this problem through health and wealth equity. |
About Us |
We are a team of community members trained as doulas and perinatal support people who provide education and support to expecting mothers. We specialize in a range of services to assist pregnant women from prenatal stage and beyond. In order to ensure the success of the baby, we must give mothers the tools to create that platform, while supporting them. Birthing Beautiful Communities is designed to uplift and inspire communities through babies. We strive to eliminate infant mortality through culture, education, advocacy, support and engagement using a holistic approach. We train women to become community based doulas and employ them to support pregnant women in their own neighborhoods.

Our History |
BBC was formed by a group of doulas who reside in the most affected neighborhoods of Cleveland, Ohio in response to the very high infant mortality rates and inadequate prenatal care amongst African American urban communities.
